Where to buy a SA rated helmet in SoCal?

#1

Does any on know of a shop in SoCal that sells SA rated helmets? All of the helmets I own now are Snell M rated. I would like to try a few on before I buy one. I would also like to take a look at Safety Solution Hybrid Rage, if any shops in the area carry them. I live in Riverside so any shops within 50 or 60 miles would be nice.

I like to try on things before buy too but I don’t know of any race gear shops in southern California (there’s a bunch of M/C shops for sure based on my Google search)…one thing you could do is try on motorcycle helmets and figure out what size fits then order a SA helmet from an Internet vendor. Depending on the vendor you may get out of paying sales tax and there are many vendors who will ship it free. I bought my Bell Sport II from Helmet City http://www.helmetcity.com (located in Oakland, CA…you’ll pay sales tax). SafeRacer is a reputable vender and has a free shipping deal for orders >$99 http://www.saferacer.com

For a wider audience you might also post on NASA Forums (SoCal Section) and ask there about possible vendors in your area. Here’s the link: http://www.nasaforums.com/viewforum.php?f=12&sid=d12ba8a902f0f86ff65476a482fe5e41

For a head/neck restraint I use a Safety Devices R3 Rage…which I bought from Safe Drives http://www.safedrives.com/products.asp?cat=82 I went with the R3 because I didn’t like the way the HANS felt on my shoulder blades. I’ve been real happy with the R3 so far and got used to wearing it during the first race I used it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information Scott. I was planning on posting on some other forums. I had just not got to it yet.

Where in riverside are you kona. I live in colton. I have bell k1 sport sa-rated. I also have a scorpion ex-1000 m-rated. they fit entirely different. the k1 fits nice and comfy. the scorpion is like overloaded with paddingd. I’ll be there at speed ventures this weekend so imma so up with my k1 sport. if you have a head sock and a size medium head you can try it. (no sweating of course).

There IS a place to try on and buy a helmet in SoCal! I finally found one…Bell Helmets in Costa Mesa (about an hour from Riverside and a good excuse for a trip to the beach:-)Address is: 949 Newhall St, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. Phone: 800-341-5834. Also, there’s an awesome sale on Bell Helmets right now. I got a Sport 3, normally about $349 for $261. They sell Bell Helmets and a few other brands too. Have lots in stock to try on…the back of the store is a warehouse.
